Asked whether the divergence between cash-rate futures and bank share momentum still holds when offshore funding costs move first. Thread picked up four replies.
Reader questions that came through the messages page usually land on the same three topics: how rate expectations move bank shares, why the AUD carry story keeps breaking, and how to size a position when the session turns against you. These are the notes we point people to first.
Still have a question that is not covered here? Send it through the contact page and we will route it to the right desk.
Send a question about a market review, a data discrepancy in the Austranext coverage, or a technical indicator that is not behaving the way the documentation says it should. Messages land in the same queue the analysts read between sessions, so replies come from someone who actually works with the numbers.
Best for chart screenshots, exported indicator settings, and anything that needs a written trail. Attach the timeframe and instrument so the reply does not start with a round of clarifying questions.
Weekdays during Sydney market hours. Useful when a position is open and the question cannot wait for an email thread. Keep the instrument and the level you are watching ready before you dial.
For written correspondence, documentation requests, and anything that needs a signature rather than a screen.
What to expect after you send
Messages about an open position are read first. Everything else is worked in the order it arrives.
Many questions about indicators, position sizing, and reading a market review are already covered in the written guides. Check there before sending, it often saves a day.

Follow-up on the iron ore forward curve piece, specifically which contract months to watch when Chinese steel margins compress.
Position sizing question after a rough ASX session. Wants the fixed-fractional rules restated for a smaller account.
Notes on the RBA cycle walkthrough, with a correction on the 2022 divergence window. Editor reply attached.
Long thread on carry trade exit conditions and how the RBA-Treasury spread behaves around quarter-end.
Thanks for the note on the 2022 window. I went back through the futures data and you are right, the divergence opened a week earlier than the chart showed.
On the iron ore curve, the second and third contract months are the ones that actually move the AUD carry story. The front month is mostly noise.
For a smaller account, the fixed-fractional rule still works but the consecutive-loss cutoff needs to be tighter. Two losses, not three.
Quarter-end spread behaviour is worth its own piece. The pattern is consistent enough to plan around, but only when funding markets are calm.
Every note published here is general market commentary written for readers who follow Australian equities, currency pairs and commodity flows. Nothing on this page is personal financial advice, a recommendation to buy or sell, or a promise about what a position will do next.
If a message references a specific instrument, it is there to illustrate a method or a reading of the data, not to suggest that the same trade suits your account.
